It’s Inktouber!!!
Hello, Art Friends!
Welcome to spooky month, and even more scary for artists, Inktouber!! (Queue thunder sounds.)
I feel like this month always comes with a bit of stress and excitement for most artists. There’s always that will-I, won’t I battle of two wolves that goes on in most of our heads. That battle, of course, is Inktober. For those who don’t know, Inktouber is an internet challenge started by artist Jake Parker where you create a new ink drawing every day of the month.
I was committed to doing a full month of Inktouber this year. I had it all planned out. I was going to draw a character a day from my fantasy graphic novel I’m working on, and share them with you, but of course, life had other plans. I was lucky enough to go on a trip to Portugal at the beginning of the month, and that made me rethink my whole plan. I didn’t want to spend my vacation worrying about posting for social media every day, and on top of that, I was surrounded by so much beauty, I just wanted to take the time to capture what I was seeing.
So I did..
I spent the week taking in the scenes, and took a little bit of time to do some painting and drawing.
When I’m creating work for myself, or just for the fun of drawing, I don’t want it to ever feel like work. I want to take the time and create things I’m inspired by. So if you’re new to art or just started drawing, some of these internet challenges can definitely be a great way to keep you motivated. Just remember to create work that you love and are inspired to make.
Below I have some of my sketches from my trip, and I want to do a couple more from reference photos I took. Follow me on all my socials under drawgabedraw to see little videos of me painting those.
With that being said, I’m not quite done with Inktouber just yet. I don’t think I’ll be so strict on myself and try to put something out every day, but I do like the idea of telling you the story behind the characters of Huckleberry Hollow and showing you a bit more of the town as well.
So I hope you stick around as I ink a few more pages of the book and introduce you to the rest of the cast!
